The Human Adventure Is Just Beginning
1979. For some reason my parents decided to take their three-year old son to the theater with them as they watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture. That image you see on the background of this blog? Well, that is literally the earliest memory I have as a human being, so it wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to say that I've been a life-like Trekkie. Needless to say, being able to engage (heh) in an online course about the influence of Star Trek sounded pretty awesome.
My favorite series tends to be whichever one I'm currently watching, but the themes and characters of Deep Space Nine hold a special place in my heart and I've always joked that if I were forced to choose between Kirk and Picard, I'd choose Calhoun (From Peter David's fantastic New Frontiers book series). Though, I'm always reminded of just how awesome Kirk is when I watch TOS. And just how great Picard is when I watch TNG. And just how amazing... well. I'm sure you get the idea.
Anyway, I feel like I'm just starting to ramble now, so that'll be it for this one. I look forward to seeing what this course is all about!
